Transitioning to Proficiency: Tips for Improving Instruction and Assessment
9:00-12:00 This session will discuss tips for adapting classroom instruction and assessment to promote student growth in language proficiency, especially for programs preparing students to achieve the Seal of Biliteracy. Participants will learn methods for fostering student ownership of their learning, planning lessons with authentic resources, creating proficiency-based assessments and rubrics, and implementing standards-based grading to further support student proficiency. Participants will also be provided with samples and examples that they can adapt and build upon. Presented by Laura Buder, AWLA 2017 Teacher of the Year

1:00-3:00 In this session the presenter will share activities for use in a proficiency-based classroom. She will also provide online resources that teachers can easily use. Presented by Yohanna Jimenez, St. Lukes’ Episcopal School
