Teaching for Meaning and Purpose with Thematic Units

Well-planned standards- and proficiency- based thematic units are the basis for a powerful curriculum that contains motivating experiences that respond to the diverse needs of our learners. Thematic planning leads to lessons that are culturally connected, cognitively challenging and emotionally engaging. In this 2-day workshop we will: a) see examples of thematic units, b) learn how to plan such a unit and c) go through the steps of creating a unit from choosing a topic to filling in a unit plan template.
