A few words from AWLA VP Liza Heath:

Virtual Language Advocacy Day allowed me to take action in a circle outside my school, city, and state on the need to value language education in the United States. It was very encouraging and exciting to know that I am not alone in this process. Knowing that so many like-minded people from all over the nation were coming together on the same day and at the same time to work together towards one common goal was very powerful.

Through the training provided by JNCL-NCLIS I learned how to use my story to highlight my petition and how to connect with our legislators in order to provide insight on how language learning will directly impact our nation. The privilege of sharing my story with five different legislators and exercising my First Amendment right to advocate for something that is so essential for our country is something I value, knowing that many people around the world do not have this freedom. I look forward to being able to do this again next year in Washington, D.C. in order to make connections with others that share a passion for the importance of languages.
