The AWLA Executive Board gathered Saturday, September 30th at the University of Mobile to continue planning for AWLA 2018.  University of Mobile Vice Provost, Dean of College of A&S and Professor, Dr. Lonnie Burnett greeted the board and offered a warm welcome to the board.

The University is excited to be hosting AWLA 2018 and we think attendees will enjoy the campus and community.  AWLA 2018 Program Chair Kristy Britt has worked hard to work up a session program that will be enriching and AWLA 2018 Site Chair Barbara Brousseau has pulled out all the stops to make it a fulfilling experience by offering two optional excursions for AWLA 2018 attendees and their families.

Registration is now open for AWLA 2018 and you can follow details as they come available online at theawla.org.

I have exciting and yet bittersweet news to share.  AWLA Executive Director, Dr. Sheri Spaine Long, has accepted the position of Executive Director of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.  Please find the press release here. This is a wonderful opportunity for Sheri as much as it is for us Alabama educators to have someone from our ranks representing the profession at such a high and prestigious level.  Therefore, the excitement that I share is for Sheri and her new opportunity and the bittersweet is that AWLA will be launching a search for a new Executive Director.
